History.

Our inn’s story began in 1902, when Micka Hafner obtained a trade license to serve drinks and prepare warm meals. Although she was the official owner, locals always referred to the place as “Pr’ Pepet” (At Pepe’s), named after her husband, Josip. The inn enjoyed an excellent reputation; the people of Loka would regularly stop by for a glass of wine and sautéed veal liver, and on Saturdays, the harmonious songs of the “Loka lads” would echo through the main room.
The proprietor, Pepe, loved to join the company with a štuc (glass) of wine in hand, though he never actually served the guests. His character was captured by the painter A. G. Kos. in a caricature that hanged in the side room: it depicts Pepe with one foot on a deer, a “viržinka” cigar in his mouth, and his “fičafaj” (bow and arrow) in his right hand – pictured below. Josip also served as mayor from 1913 to 1918 and was a member of the advisory council from 1921 to 1933.

Despite several temporary closures, the inn remained in operation until 1962, but its memory lived on in the hearts of many. After a hiatus of over 50 years, we reopened the doors in 2018, driven by the desire to preserve this rich tradition, our local cuisine, and the authentic atmosphere of Škofja Loka.
